Welcome to the Prep S home page!

We are a class of 18 children and our teacher is Miss Stanton. We do most of our learning in Room 1 however we like to get out and about around the school.

We try to make our classroom bright and interesting by putting lots of our work up around our room.

In our classroom the most important thing is to ‘have a go’. We also believe we should be happy, listen to each other and help each other. Our class mascot is Floppy. During the week he watches us work but every Friday somebody gets to take him home to their house. He has lots of adventures and we get to write in a book about our adventures with him.

We settled into school quickly and we are always busy either doing Reading, Writing or Numeracy. Somewhere in our days at school we fit in PE, PMP (Perceptual Motor Program), Library and Computers. We work in small groups most of the time, some groups work by themselves while a group is always working with Miss Stanton. Sometimes groups are lucky to work with Mrs Ramaekers, Mrs Cockett or a parent helper. We really enjoy getting to make things and learn lots of new things in Play Based Learning which we do four times a week. We are really enjoying learning how to use our Interactive Whiteboard and we all love getting up and having a go. We use the computers lots and we are all getting good at using many programs such as KidPix, Kidspiration and Microsoft PowerPoint.

We love going to Art with Miss Rawlinson every Monday, Music with Mrs Mancev on Tuesday and Cultural Studies with Miss Rawlinson on Thursday. We really enjoy doing activities with the other Prep grade (Prep K) and sometimes even the Grade 1/2 classes.

As you can see we are always very busy. We may be working but whenever people come into our room they will see us smiling and having fun.

Reading

In Reading we work in groups. Every week we read with Miss Stanton. Our other activities are usually about the alphabet or words. We also get to use the computer lots to help us with our learning. We are very lucky we have lots of parents who come in to help us also.

Writing

In Writing we work in groups so we can help each other with our learning. During the week we all get to work with Miss Stanton so she can help us with our writing.

Numeracy

In Numeracy we work in groups. We try to do lots of hands on activities to help us with our learning.

PMP/PE

We do PMP (Perceptual Motor Program) and PE with Prep K. We are put into groups with a mix of children from both grades. Sometimes we do specific activities with the teachers, other times we have a bit of exploration time with the equipment. During PMP and PE we always have a focus on skills (e.g. running, skipping, balancing, crawling).

Play Based Learning

In Play Based Learning the main focus is around our ‘letter of the week’. We get a choice throughout the week of which activities we would like to do.
