Banyule Primary School

At Banyule Primary School, Performing Arts is a vibrant and essential part of every child’s education. We believe all students should have opportunities to create, explore and express themselves, whilst developing confidence, creativity and a strong sense of collaboration.

All students participate in a weekly lesson, where they are encouraged to use their imagination, take creative risks and build their skills as emerging performers and creators.

 

Our program provides rich learning experiences across the Performing Arts, allowing students to

explore and develop their skills in different ways:

• Music: Students listen, respond and create through singing, playing instruments and composing their own pieces.

• Dance: Students use movement to express ideas and emotions, choreographing and performing their own routines.

• Drama: Students build confidence in storytelling through role-play, improvisation and performance.

• Media (Years 5–6): Students design and produce digital projects, developing both creative thinking and technical skills.

 

Cultural understanding is embedded throughout the program. Students explore and respect the perspectives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and celebrate the diversity within our school community and beyond.

 

A highlight of the year is our whole-school December celebration, where families and the wider community come together to enjoy a festive Christmas Carols performance.

 

Opportunities Beyond the Classroom
Students can extend their interest in the Performing Arts through a range of extracurricular opportunities such as:

• Choir (Years 3–6): Weekly rehearsals where students learn and perform a variety of songs for the school community.

• Talent Show (Years 5–6): A Term 4 highlight where students rehearse and showcase a talent of their choice.

Students also have the opportunity to enrol in private instrumental lessons, including piano and guitar.
